Building Access Case Study
MTNPower app
Purpose of the project
Our client, MTN SA, required a digital solution to manage the number of employees in their various buildings during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Providence created a Building Access application through PowerApp that was used by the employees to “request access” to the various buildings.
This solution that we provided was thus used as a tracking application, to ensure that Covid-19 protocols in terms of capacity management were followed.

The Dilemma
During the 2019 Covid Pandemic, restrictions were imposed on large gatherings, both inside and outside the workplace.
This presented companies with the predicament of not being able to have the full workforce at the office at the same time. In order to adhere to the regulations, companies had to physically number the amount of people entering and exiting the buildings.
Project Goals
- Ensure that all involved are adhering to Covid regulations for this period of time.
- To be able to easily reach employees with regards to Covid related issues.
- To avoid employees having to stand in a long queue at reception
- It must be convenient and easy to use
- Must help to limit physical contact
The Solution
Employees are able to request access to the building via the application. They would need to specify the date and time of when they need access to the building. Once the request is approved, the employee receives a QR Code.
Once the employee(s) arrive at the building, the security guard scans the QR Code that the employee received. This will then scan the employee into the building and once they leave the building, the QR code gets scanned again. This ensures that at all times, MTN is able to pull a report on how many employees are in the building. MTN Management is also able to pull reports on which employees come into the office at which times.
This application ensures that MTN comply with to the Covid restrictions, that ware set out by the government.
